1 tablespoon of butter or margarine
1 cup of onions, chopped
¾ teaspoon of salt
¼ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
8 rye bread slices
8 cheddar cheese slices
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Add onions to the pan, cooking until tender and golden brown, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, preheat broiler.
Sprinkle burger patties with salt and pepper. Broil patties 4-5 inches from the heat source for 3 to 4 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches a minimum of 165°F.Fill sandwiches with your golden brown patties and cheddar cheese slices (cheese optional).
Melt ½ tablespoon of butter or margarine in same skillet.
Cook 2 filled sandwiches at a time in the skillet until browned and cheese is melted, 3 minutes per side. Repeat with remaining butter and 2 sandwiches.
Hint: For an extra kick, add sriracha hot sauce.
